Tettegouche State Park
Crosscountry Ski Trip
with The Rovers
January 26 - 29, 2001

Friday, January 26:

We left St. Paul Friday at 9:00 a.m. By early afternoon, we were skiing into the Tettegouche camp. I was on rented skis and carried a World War II backpack containing a sleeping bag, a change of clothes, some toiletries, and four days' lunches.

The trip in, for me, was challenging. I found out quickly I was overdressed. Soon after that, I discovered I couldn't stop going down hills. Once I got to the cabins, there I stayed for the night.

My fellow Rovers, however, took to their skis and checked out the trails 'til early evening.

Is it morning already?

The twelve of us stayed in two cabins.

Cabin A

is close to the showers

and the lodge.

Cabin B is down by Mic Mac Lake.

After breakfast, I started out down the Palisade Valley trail with Nancy. Nancy didn't stay with me long.

What did I get myself into?

Eight miles later, I returned to the cabins, every limb sore and feeling very much like a survivor.

Some fellow Rovers were stretching in Cabin B using Yoga techniques demonstrated by Ann.

Quentin brought his guitar, and we moved over to the lodge, where we sang and played poker, betting with Cadbury Eggs.
Fun was had by all.

Sunday, January 28:

A side trip over a babbling brook brought me to Nipisiquit Lake. Even though the temperature was below freezing, the brook ran freely. I regret not testing the water.

Monday, January 29:

Our last day. Packed for the trip out.
